Proverbs 31:10-31kjv
10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
13 She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
14 She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar.
15 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.
16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
17 She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.
18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.
19 She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
22 She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
24 She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
The Bible is our instruction book for life. It gives advice on how to live as God intends. Our scripture for today, Proverbs 31:10-31 offers a description of how a woman of faith acts and lives her life. It says that an excellent woman is more precious than jewels. She is a blessing to her husband and her family!
As women, clothing ourselves in strength and dignity can look different for each of us. To celebrate Mother’s Day, we want to discuss whether you are a mother or daughter, we all need prayer and constant reminders to trust God’s word.
Think about the Virtuous Woman described in Proverbs 31. Why would God inspire Solomon to write such Words? Why is being Virtous a good thing? How can being a Virtuous woman show God’s love?
Wow! That is a lot to take in. We are not perfect! Although, we should strive to be. Becoming a Proverbs 31 woman means working hard to become a woman who honors God. Today’s Proverb’s Woman should be all the things Solomon spoke of in writing Proverbs 31:10-31. Today’s Proverbs Women are the same. It is how women of faith live their lives today:
- Remember that you are worthy of God’s grace.
- Be truthful and faithful.
- Love others, be good to others and pray for others.
- Work hard in everything you do.
- Wake up early and start the day with God. Pray every day and praise our Lord.
- Study and learn. Enrich your life with knowledge and understanding and become well rounded in your skills.
- Take advantage of opportunities in business, helping others, and caring for others.
- Be strong and endure hard times. Put your faith in God to help you when you feel lost.
- Love and honor yourself; dress well, exercise, behave like a lady.
- Find a husband who shares your values and love of God.
- Fear God and honor him in all things.
- Remember that you are praise worthy and will be rewarded for your work.
A woman of faith is constantly looking for ways to do good and help others. Proverbs says that like ships that sail far and wide, a woman of faith would go to the ends of the earth to provide the very best for her family. Not only would she go anywhere, but she would also do anything, including waking up early each day to make sure that her household has plenty to eat.
As women, we can find great encouragement in these truths. If you are a mother, you have a unique opportunity to love your family by preparing for them daily. Daughters, you may not have to prepare for your entire household, but the Lord has put in your life specific people to pray over and encourage. Don’t feel like God has burdened you with all the tasks he has set before you. If you are feeling down, know God is right beside you giving you strength. Trust him and live by faith, as a Proverb’s Woman in today’s world! Happy Mother’s Day!
